Dr. Liu was born in 1966 in Qixia city, Shandong province. He was a Cheung Kong professor at Peking University between Dec., 2001 and Dec., 2018, and since then became a chair professor and the inaugural director of Qingdao Institute for Theoretical and Computational Sciences (QiTCS) at Shandong University. He is member of International Academy of Quantum Molecular Science, fellow of Royal Society of Chemistry, member of European Academy of Sciences, fellow of Asia-Pacific Association of Theoretical and Computational Chemists, and winner of 5 international awards. He has been developing relativistic quantum chemical theories and methods for the electronic structure and electric/magnetic properties of heavy elements, and is recognized by international peers as an authority and a key player in the field of relativistic quantum chemistry.
