Biography

Wang Yan, Ph.D., Professor. Born in January 1968 in Baotou, Inner Mongolia. Graduated from Shandong University in July 1993 and has been working there ever since. From 1993 to 2002, she mainly engaged in the research and application of water treatment agents and environmental impact assessments. Between 2002 and 2006, she pursued a doctoral degree in environmental engineering while working. Since 2006, she has primarily focused on research in precipitation and cloud chemistry, atmospheric aerosols, and the environmental behavior of persistent pollutants. From June to September 2010, she was a visiting scholar at Miami University, learning about the analysis and detection techniques of environmental POPs (Persistent Organic Pollutants), and from March to April 2018, she served as a senior researcher at SUNY Upstate Medical University and SUNY, co-supervising graduate students in conducting toxicity experiments on fine particulate matter and developing and improving atmospheric mercury models. To date, she has supervised 46 graduate students to graduation.

Working-Papers

The research group has been committed to the study of atmospheric environmental chemistry and the health impacts of environmental air quality for a long time, with research directions including cloud and precipitation chemistry, aerosol chemistry, the environmental geochemical cycle of mercury, environmental monitoring, and atmospheric transport of persistent organic pollutants, and health risk assessment of air pollution, etc. The group has conducted multiple environmental air quality monitoring and atmospheric cloud and fog field observation experiments at urban sites in East and North China, as well as at field sites like Mount Tai, Mount Heng, Mount Lu, Hong Kong’s Tai Mo Shan, and Cape Verde in Africa. Comprehensive studies have been conducted on the emission sources, migration and transformation, and atmospheric transport of atmospheric pollutants such as SO2, fine particulate matter, atmospheric mercury, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, VOCs, etc., along with epidemiological studies on the impact of air pollution on respiratory diseases and the health risk assessment of particulate matter pollution components. In recent years, the group has led and participated in more than twenty projects including key R&D programs of the Ministry of Science and Technology, the National Natural Science Foundation of China, public welfare scientific research projects in Shandong Province, and the Natural Science Foundation of Shandong Province. The group has made research breakthroughs in the transport and spatiotemporal distribution characteristics of tropospheric atmospheric pollutants, acidification mechanisms of cloud water, accumulation of POPs in clouds, and the migration and transformation of atmospheric mercury in cloud and fog processes. The research achievements have been published in over 120 SCI papers in fields related to environmental and atmospheric science, such as Environmental Science & Technology, Atmospheric Chemistry and Physics, Journal of Geophysical Research, Science of the Total Environment, Atmospheric Environment, etc. The group has completed 16 technology achievement appraisals and national invention patents and received 37 awards for scientific and technological progress from the Ministry of Education, the Science and Technology Progress Award of Shandong Province, and the Shandong Province Environmental Protection Science and Technology Award.
