Biography

Guangqi Wu is a Professor and Ph.D. supervisor at the Institute of Frontier Chemistry, School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Shandong University. He received his B.S. in Pharmacy from Ocean University of China in 2015, and his Ph.D. in Polymer Chemistry and Physics from the College of Chemistry and Molecular Engineering, Peking University in 2020 (supervisor: Prof. Hua Lu), with a doctoral thesis titled "Synthesis and Application of Sulfur- and Selenium-Containing Polypeptides". He was a Boya Postdoctoral Fellow at the College of Chemistry and Molecular Engineering, Peking University (2020–2022, advisor: Prof. Hua Lu), a Postdoctoral Associate in the Department of Chemical Engineering and the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (2022–2024, advisor: Prof. Connor W. Coley), and a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Oxford (2024–2026, advisors: Prof. Yujia Qing and Prof. Hagan Bayley FRS). He joined Shandong University as a Professor in September 2026.

His research interests include data-driven and automation-enabled discovery of functional polymers, high-throughput polymer synthesis and characterization, controlled synthesis of sulfur-/selenium-containing polypeptides and their biomedical applications, and AI-assisted materials design. His work has been published as first author (including co-first author) or co-corresponding author in Nature Synthesis, J. Am. Chem. Soc., ACS Central Science, Matter, Angew. Chem. Int. Ed., Biomacromolecules, and other journals.

He was selected as an attendee of the 74th Lindau Nobel Laureate Meeting (Chemistry, 2025), and has received the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions Postdoctoral Fellowship (European Commission, 2024–2026), the Boya Postdoctoral Fellowship of Peking University (2020–2022), and the Peking University Principal Scholarship (2019).
