On the morning of April 2, 2024, Researcher Ruilin Sun, Vice President of Shanghai Model Organisms Co., Ltd., was invited by Professor Dalei Wu from the State Key Laboratory of Microbial Technology to participate in the “Microcosmic Exploration for Scientific Insight: Graduate Innovation Special Course.” Sun delivered an academic lecture on the biopharmaceutical industry, chaired by Professor Dalei Wu.
The lecture focused on the biological and pharmaceutical industry, and researcher Ruilin Sun conducted in-depth analysis from the role and industry status of model organisms/experimental animals in drug research and development, the problems and challenges faced by animal models in drug research and development, the application of genetically modified animal models in drug research and development, and the preclinical drug evaluation system for precision drug research and development. Drawing from his extensive industry experience and academic expertise, Sun provided a comprehensive overview of cutting-edge advancements in the biopharmaceutical field.
The lecture attracted a large audience of faculty and students. Attendees praised the lecture for deepening their understanding of industry practices and clarifying career pathways. Post-lecture discussions saw active participation, with students enthusiastically engaging Sun in Q&A sessions.
About Researcher Ruilin Sun:
Researcher Ruilin Sun has long been engaged in the development of gene-edited models, with a primary focus on the creation of gene-edited animal models for diseases. He pioneered the establishment of a method for preparing tetracycline-reversible inducible endogenous gene silencing mouse models and led his team to develop a gene-edited animal model research system based on the CRISPR/Cas system. He has published six academic papers in journals such as Nucleic Acids Research and co-authored 24 papers in prestigious journals including Science, Nature Medicine, and Cell Stem Cell. Additionally, he has applied for 23 patents, of which 16 have been granted.
