Biography

Professor Gaoming Xiang joined Shandong University titled "Qilu Young Scholar" in Shandong Province in April 2023. He earned his Ph.D. degree in Aeronautical and Astronautical Science and Technology from Tsinghua University in 2019. During the course of graduate study, Dr. Xiang did research about ns laser induced bubble dynamics for a short period in Prof. Claus-Dieter Ohl's group at Otto-von-Guericke Magdeburg University in Germany. He also studied as an exchanging Ph.D. student in Prof. Siegfried Mueller's group at RWTH Aachen University, where his research focused on the numerics of fluid-structure interaction.

After graduation, Dr. Xiang joined Prof. Pei Zhong's group as a postdoc associate in the dept. of Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science at Duke University, USA. Dr. Xiang's main responsibilities during his postdoc training are: experimental and computational investigations of fluid field and shear and tensile stresses produced by focused shock waves, cavitation bubbles in shock wave and laser lithotripsy, and SAW transducers in relation to cell deformation and mechanotransduction processes in ultrasound neuromodulation.

Dr. Xiang's research concerns the fundamentals and applications of fluid mechanics for the problems in laser and ultrasound therapy. In particular, he is interested in 1) biomedical applications of therapeutic ultrasound and laser, 2) mechanics of shock interaction with solids, bubbles and droplets, 3) physics of ultrasound and laser interaction with different materials.
