Biography

Dr. Zhou Bin is a professor at the School of Information Science and Engineering of Shandong University, and the CTO of Ascend Computing Business, Huawei. He has B.Sc., M.Sc., and Ph.D. degrees in electronic engineering from Tsinghua University and an M.Sc. in computer engineering from George Mason University. His research covers a wide range of fields, including the heterogeneous computing system and architecture, deep learning and machine learning, parallel computing and signal processing, and target detection, classification, identification, and tracking based on deep learning.

Dr. Zhou is an influential figure in both industry and academia. Before moving to his current position, he was a deep learning scientist at SenseTime and served as the global Vice President at NovuMind. In recognition of his contribution to heterogeneous accelerated computing, NVIDIA named Dr. Zhou as the 12th CUDA Fellow in 2013. He also served as a visiting professor or adjunct research professor at academic institutions, such as the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC), and George Mason University.

Dr. Zhou is also a productive researcher. He owns more than 10 patents at home and abroad and has published more than 20 papers. He leads multiple major scientific research projects, including the GPU-based Global and Regional Assimilation and Prediction System (GRAPES) for weather prediction, face detection and recognition system, video processing system, and AI processor chip.
