A new paper led by one of our group member Mr. Zhou Liu has been published on the journal JGR-A. The title is “Impact of Lightning-Induced Nitrogen Oxides Over and Around the Tibetan Plateau on the Tibetan Plateau Ozone Valley”. This study is about the influence of lightning-induced nitrogen oxides (LNOx) and monsoon transport on the Tibetan Plateau (TP) Ozone (O3) Valley. Using the WRF-Chem model, the research emphasizes the importance of LNOx as a source of NOx over the TP, with monsoonal-transported LNOx being the predominant contributor. It reveals that LNOx mitigates the summer formation of the TP O3 valley, with locally-generated LNOx primarily increasing O3 levels in the upper troposphere-lower stratospheric region, while monsoon-transported LNOx predominantly impacts near-surface O3 levels over the TP.
