汤用彤先生曾谓，佛法与经学在北朝的相遇乃“一大事因缘，实甚可注意”。本书从这一判断出发，通过对核心文本的再解读、对典型事件的发掘，拓展了北朝佛教与经学交涉研究的视域。通过发掘北朝僧众反思“修多罗”译名、重构佛教典籍整理方式以及三教存废论辩、征辟沙门、太后出家重构北朝的经学语境，指出经学对佛教中国转化的方向、致思理路与表达方式的真实影响。
