Biography
Feng Chen is currently a Distinguished Professor at School of Physics, Shandong University, China. He is now also with State Key Laboratory of Crystal Materials, Shandong University. He served as the Dean of School of Physics, Shandong University in 2013-2021.
He received the degrees of Bachelor of Science and Doctor of Science (PhD) from Shandong Normal University in 1997 and Shandong University in 2002, respectively. After he finished his doctoral dissertation, he stayed at Shandong University as a Lecturer. Afterwards, he spent 2 years at Clausthal University of Technology, Germany, from 2003 to 2005, as an Alexander von Humboldt Research Fellow. He became an Associate Professor and Professor at Shandong University in 2004 and 2006, respectively.
His research interests include optical waveguides, lasers, photonic crystals, solitons, 2D materials, plasmonic nanoparticles, etc. Particularly, he is very active in the scientific community related to optical waveguides in optical materials produced by ultrafast lasers and energetic ion beams. He has published one book and 5 book chapters and more than 300 papers in peer-reviewed journals with total citations of more than 8000 times, and holds 10 patents. Since 2014, he has been recognized as Most Cited Chinese Researchers by Elsevier China for 6 years (from 2014 to 2021). Currently, he leads a research group working on optical waveguides, lasers, nonlinear optics, plasmonic nanoparticles and other related topics. He has close collaboration with more than 30 research groups world widely.
Feng Chen is a Fellow of Institute of Physics (IOP), UK, SPIE, and Optica (formerly OSA), and a senior member of Chinese Optical Society (COS), and a Director Board Member of Chinese Physical Society. He serves an Associate Editor of Optical Engineering (2010-2022), an Editorial Board Member of Scientific Reports (since 2015), the Executive Editor-in-Chief of Chinese Optics Letters (since 2021), and an Editorial Board Member of Physics (since 2020). He also serves as a subcommittee member of CLEO: Light-Matter Interactions and Materials Processing, a subcommittee member of CLEO-Europe: Fibre and Waveguide Lasers, a Steering Committee member of CIOP (one of the major conferences on Optics and Photonics in China), and an active reviewer for more than 60 peer-reviewed scientific journals.
