At the invitation of Professor Youming Zhang, Director of the State Key Laboratory of Microbial Technology, and Professor Dalei Wu of our research group, researcher Cheng Luo of Shanghai Institute of Materia Medica, was a guest of "Mountains and Seas: Knowing the Microorganism" on May 13, 2021.He gave a series of academic lectures at the forum, and gave an academic report entitled “Lead Discovery and Mechanism of Action Research of Innovative Drugs with New Targets and New Mechanisms: From Chemical Bionic Regulation to Natural Drug Target Discovery”. The lecture was chaired by Professor Dalei Wu.
In his report, researcher Luo told the teachers and students present that his research group conducts innovative drug discovery and mechanism research on new targets and new mechanisms through a multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary medicinal chemical biology platform. Combined with some of the research in his own laboratory, including the discovery of antithrombotic drugs targeting β3/Src protein-protein interactions to reduce bleeding side effects, the discovery of LC3 lead compounds targeting endogenous modification sites, and the discovery of natural drug targets for the main components of Salvia, Researcher Luo also shared his experience of finding a new way to provide a source for new drugs over the years, and looked forward to the discovery of new drugs from a new perspective in the future.
Cheng Luo is currently a researcher and doctoral supervisor at the Shanghai Institute of Materia Medica, Chinese Academy of Sciences, a winner of the National Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars and the WuXi AppTec Life Science Award, and was selected as an innovation leader by the Ministry of Science and Technology. He has published more than 200 SCI papers, with a total impact factor (IF) of about 1300 and an H-factor of 397000 times. Among them, in Nature, Cancer Cell, Nature Chem, Adv Sci, JACS, PNAS, Adv Mater, Nucleic Acid Res, and J Med Chem. He has published more than 130 papers in newsletters, joint newsletters or first author journals.
After the lecture, Cheng Luo Research Institute took a group photo with members of research group.
