On December 6, 2023, the Ocean Negative Carbon Emissions (ONCE) program held side events in the Blue Zone China Pavilion and Ocean Pavilion at the 28th Conference of the Parties (COP28) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. Scientists and representatives from various sectors discussed the support and contribution of ocean negative emission scientific measures to carbon neutrality, as well as the response and coping strategies for climate change.

From April 8 to 12, 2024, the United Nations "Ocean Decade" Conference (2024 Ocean Decade Conference) was held in Barcelona, Spain. Professor Jihua Liu from the Institute of Marine Science and Technology, Shandong University, attended the plenary and several thematic discussions, and on behalf of the Ocean Negative Carbon Emissions (ONCE) program, co-hosted a satellite event with the United States and Germany, promoting the scientific concept and implementation plan of the ONCE program, and advancing the exchange and cooperation on oceans' response to climate change.
