Personal Information

Ming Shao is a Professor and Vice Dean of the School of Life Sciences at Shandong University, a PhD supervisor, a recipient of China’s National High-level Youth Talent Program, and a Taishan Scholar Young Expert. He earned both his bachelor’s and doctoral degrees from Shandong University (2001–2010) and carried out postdoctoral research at the Institut Biologie Paris-Seine, Sorbonne University, France (2010–2011). Since 2010 he has remained at Shandong University, progressing from Lecturer to Associate Professor and now Professor.

Professor Shao’s research centers on the mechanisms of early embryonic development. His group has made a series of original scientific discoveries and technical advances, including:

• Identifying a stem-cell-specific dsRNA sensor
• Revealing key organizers of germ-plasm granules
• Elucidating maternal control of the Wnt signaling pathway
• Developing a rapid genetic strategy for obtaining maternal mutants

These findings have been published in leading journals such as Molecular Cell, The EMBO Journal, PNAS, Science Advances, Nature Communications, PLoS Genetics, Development and etc.
